PhD positions
The Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP) of the Albert Einstein Center for Fundamental Physics at the University of Bern announces an opening for a PhD position in theoretical particle physics within the SNSF Ambizione project on Power Corrections for Precision Collider Physics led by Dr. Sebastian Jaskiewicz.
The project will focus on developing the framework for delivering precise theoretical predictions for phenomenologically important observables at the LHC, EIC, and future colliders. The applicants should have an interest in effective field theories, QCD, perturbative calculations, and learning about modern methods such as soft-collinear effective theory and its applications to collider physics.
The selected candidate will join the Particle Physics at Colliders research group of Prof. Thomas Becher (https://www.itp.unibe.ch/research/collider_physics/) and the wider ITP community, with experts working on Lattice QFT, Thermal Field Theory and Particle Cosmology, BSM searches in low-energy observables, String Theory, and Perturbative QFT (https://www.itp.unibe.ch/).
Starting Date will be September 1st or October 1st 2025.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in theoretical physics (completed at least 2 month prior to the starting date) and strong motivation to pursue an academic career in theoretical physics.
The application should include a Cover Letter, CV, statement of research interests and motivation, as well as transcripts of records of the degree programs to date (with grades). To apply, please email your application documents to sebastian.jaskiewicz@unibe.ch, as a single PDF document. The applicants should also arrange for two reference letters to be sent directly to sebastian.jaskiewicz@unibe.ch.
